Using your smartphone when making a presentation

Posted: 19 Jul 2016 03:04 AM PDT

If you are making a presentation away from the office you can use your smartphone as a portable drive. All you have to do transfer your files to your phone before you leave the office, using an app such as Dropbox. Then, when you arrive at the venue where you are making the presentation you just need to link your phone to the laptop provided and you are good to go.

This is not the only way you can use your smartphone when you are making a presentation. You can also use your phone to act as a remote control to operate the presentation. In order to do this you need to use apps such as i-Clickr or Bluetooth Remote PC which can talk to the laptop server. This means that you can use gestures on your smartphone to control the presentation slides.

Preparing for the presentation

If you are making a presentation then you should make sure you have everything you need before you leave the office. If you have pdf files that you want to display you may want to convert your pdf to a flipbook here to make the content more visually stimulating. It's a good idea to go through all of your visual aids and presentation slides while you are still in the office to make sure that everything is in place. If you are intending to use your phone as a presentation device then you need to test it and ensure that it has the capabilities; not all smartphones can output all content to a display or projector.

Using your smartphone as a presentation device

If there is no laptop available at the venue where you are making the presentation you may want to consider using your smartphone as a presentation device. You will need to use presentation software such as Windows Phone 7 to enable you to display PowerPoint presentations straight from your phone. If you want to get around any potential issues you might come across with using an app to display the presentation you may want to consider using an app that enables you to access your desktop and run the PowerPoint presentation remotely.

As you can see, your smartphone can come in very useful when you are making a presentation, whether you decide to use it as a portable drive, a remote or as a presentation device. One thing it's important to note is that you need to have the right software in place or your phone is not going to work in the way you want it to. You should always test out the presentation before you leave your own desk.

This includes making sure the smartphone is performing. If you do not do this then you risk not identifying issues with the presentation until you are actually making it. You can never 100% guarantee that everything will run perfectly on the day but by running through beforehand you are giving it a better chance of happening.
