One More Reason to Choose Android vs iOS Posted: 29 Aug 2013 08:47 PM PDT If you’re not a big fan of Big Brother and the NSA surveillance, you will be shocked to know that Apple sold out completely : a report from The Social Media reveals that Apple just created a new technology which will be used to switch off the smartphone’s camera, the Wi-Fi and whatever else necessary when its user will enter in a “sensible” area. The new technology will broadcast a shutdown signal to all Apple products in the area, which will become “impaired”, blind and dumb sort of speak. This is no conspiracy theory, because Apple was planning this move back in  2008, when they patented the “Apparatus and methods for enforcement of policies upon a wireless device”, this is the US Patent no 8 254 902. This “revolutionary” patent basically defines the power of the Government over some of the functions in your iPhone, meaning that some of them  can be switched off by Big Bro by remote,without the user’s consent. How cool is that? Obviously, this move from Apple sent shivers down the spine of civil liberties campaigners, who feel that the authorities will abuse the new technology in order to censor/silence its politically incorrect citizens. And they will too, mark my words, they did that every time when they had the opportunity, just take a deep look into the NSA scandal and the monstrous (not to mention illegal) domestic spying program performed by an agency paid by taxpayers  dollars. For example, if you are participating in a political rally and the police starts beating up people, you will not be able to take pictures with your iPhone, because your camera/wi-fi will be disabled. Remember the Tweeter revolution, the Live-Feed from Turkey’s/Egypt demonstrations, made possible by Wi-Fi and smartphone cameras which were recording or transmitting live when all the state televisions chose to ignore what’s happening. Now, the good people from Apple decided that iPhone users have too much liberty and Big Bro needs a helping hand. Of course, Apple claims that all they had in mind was to disable the iPhone/iPad in cinemas, theaters, at concerts, but they admitted that this technology can be easily used by police or government agencies in order to restrict free speech.   Also, Apple claims that (if you choose to believe them) the user will have the possibility to approve the changes made by remote, but this is practically a back-door built in the device by the manufacturer and you can’t be sure if what Apple claims it’s true. Remember how all tech giants lied about how they respect their users privacy when the NSA scandal hit the news. Later, they all admitted they were participating in the program and they received huge sums of money from the Government for allowing the NSA to get access to their data. If you want to be the only one in charge of your smartphone and you despise censorship and surveillance, go for Android all the way, it’s open source and open source stands for freedom and liberty.     The post One More Reason to Choose Android vs iOS appeared first on Android Apps.

Hugo Barra, Android’s VP Leaves Google for Xiaomi Posted: 29 Aug 2013 08:00 PM PDT Google officials have just confirmed that one of their top executives, Hugo Barra, Android's vice president of Product Management, is saying his good-byes to the company. Hugo Barra has been one of the most important representative figures for Google's operating system, as he often appeared at Google's annual developer conference or at press events from time to time – you surely know him, it's that friendly looking guy that makes you like him and actually enjoy and listen to what he has to say. Well, he stated that he desires to make a change in his career and is on his way to becoming part of the team for supporting Xiaomi, a Chinese cellphone maker. This decision was pretty hard to make, I guess, as Barra wrote a Google+ post where he said, I quote: "After nearly 5½ years at Google and almost 3 years as a member of the Android team — the most amazing group of people I've ever worked with in my life — I have decided to start a new career chapter." I detect a little shade of regret in these words, but the good news is that Barra's not leaving the Android-related field. The Chinese phone manufacturer is using Google's OS for their products, so Barra will continue to work within and help the Android ecosystem and his presence there will add a valuable member to Xiaomi's team. Some sources say that there's actually another reason behind this decision of leaving. Barra has had a romantic relationship with one of his colleagues from Google, but they eventually separated and the former girlfriend is now involved with Sergey Brin, one of Google's co-founders. Despite this situation, some other sources stated that this had nothing to do with Barra's personal problems and that his decision was made before he knew about his colleagues' involvement.
