The Impact of Betting on Sports Media Business Posted: 14 Dec 2019 09:33 PM PST The sports television industry is struggling to thrive in the market against video games, smartphones and social networks. Expensive cable subscriptions, an ageing audience and increasing rights costs are some of the reasons that have resulted in the shift from television to streaming services. The supreme court has ruled out a 26-year-old federal law that prohibited sports betting in the US. In the coming years, this will prove to be a healthy dose of optimism for the industry. Appetite for sports consumption will increase Most people agree that the appetite for sport consumption will surely rise because of the decision taken by the supreme court. Industry executives and experts say that the ruling is likely to produce the next major boost to the value of the sports television industry. According to a study by Nielsen Sports, bettors made up 25 per cent of the sports television audience but accounted for 47 per cent of all minutes viewed. Bettors watch about twice as much sports coverage as non-bettors do. Some of them even place bets on their favourite casino games in Omnia Canada while watching sports. "Hands down, it's a huge deal," said Brad Humphreys, a sports economist at West Virginia University. "How huge will depend on how quickly states move and how many states legalize sports betting." Betting on sports accounted for $5 billion in revenue in Nevada last year. But the figure is dwarfed by the amount bet in illegal ways, which could be anything from tens to hundreds of billions of dollars. Introduction of ESPN+ by ESPN According to a report by the UK Gambling Commission, bettors in Britain wagered over $20 billion on sports in 2017. The revenue generated by betting is retained by broadcasters, league and teams. Betting companies in the United Kingdom are estimated to put 20 to 30 per cent of revenue back into advertising, mostly on television. ESPN has introduced its sports streaming service ESPN+. It features thousands of live games at $4.99 per month. Even less high-profile events are likely to see a boost and they will surely benefit ESPN. "We haven't started making shows that target sports betting fans, but such programming has been on the ESPN+ content road map from the start," said Connor Schell, executive vice-president for content. "The company has thought about the conversation on betting in line with what Doug Kezirian is doing in his podcasts." The Vegas Stats and Information Network co-founded by ESPN broadcaster Brent Musburger streams 12 hours of betting focus videos a day. Sports leagues trying to shape the laws Both N.B.A and N.F.L has called upon Congress to pass the federal legislation to regulate sports betting in the US and Senator Orrin G. Hatch of Utah has revealed his intention to do so. Sports leagues and casino companies are trying hard to shape the laws that will regulate sports betting. "Congress knows the potential harms posed by sports betting to the integrity of sports events," says N.F.L. "Given that history, we intend to call on Congress to enact a core framework for sports betting."

What to Look for in a Good Travel App Posted: 14 Dec 2019 09:01 PM PST According to recent figures, more than 6,000 apps are released through the Google Play store each and every day. While this is an impressive figure, there are a handful of suggestions to keep in mind. This is particularly the case when referring to travel-related applications such as those offered by JetApp, as there is little room for error. What should you look for before downloading such a program? All About Functionality It should already be obvious that any mobile application needs to boast a user-friendly edge. Travel apps undoubtedly fall into this category, as the chances are high that they will be used while out and about. Take a look at an overview of the app before committing to a download in order to ensure that no functional issues are present. Taking Security Into Account Many recent articles have highlighted the fact that security is a major concern with smartphone applications. Considering that users will generally be required to divulge their personal information (such as email addresses and credit card numbers) when utilising a travel-related app, it is critical to determine what type of encryption protocols are employed. This does not necessarily have to be overly technical; simply make sure that some type of SSL encryption is present. If no information is provided within the general description, it is a good idea to contact technical support in order to learn more. A Dedicated Website for Additional Support The fact of the matter is that some travel apps offer only a limited amount of information within their smartphone-based help section. This is why it is prudent to choose programs that are mirrored by a real-time website. For example, JetApp provides users with access to a public portal which describes their private jet rental services in greater detail. It is also possible to contact customer support via this website. On a final note, applications tied directly to a domain name tend to offer a greater level of transparency in regards to what you can expect from the overall user experience. User Reviews We are all aware of the importance surrounding user reviews. However, a point needs to be made here. Always keep in mind that there are two types of reviews: paid reviews and those written by genuine customers. Paid reviews offer some type of remuneration, so the chances are high that they will be naturally biased towards the application in question. In other words, they can be seen as somewhat of a marketing ploy. It is much better to search for the organic and objective opinions of real-world users. Take a look at third-party sites as opposed to fully trusting the feedback provided by the developer. While the chances are high that a handful of customers will have something negative to say, it is best to stay away from travel applications which are defined by a majority of poor reviews. Taking the Notion of Travel to a New Level It has never been easier to enjoy a much-needed getaway thanks to the presence of travel smartphone applications. Still, not all are created equally. This is why the suggestions mentioned above will come in handy when you are deciding between different competitors. A bit of preparation and research will go a long way towards planning your next holiday!
