The 5 Best Health Apps for Android Users

Posted: 20 Aug 2019 07:39 PM PDT

Modern smartphones have a host of sensors built-in allowing them to convert real-world changes into actionable data. This ability has many implications, but our area of interest today, made possible by smartphone sensors, is health apps.

From steps taken to heart rate, health apps can measure a vast range of things and provide statistics you can track to improve yourself; all that sitting on the couch playing tile-matching and mobile casino games cannot be healthy. Here are the 5 best health apps on Android that made our lives better.

Lifesum

The common problem people face with health apps is that they often require you to keep strict records of every single meal. If you find that requirement tedious, then this app is for you. This app combines diet and exercise but doesn't force you to record every single detail. Instead, it offers basic guidelines you can follow. It asks for accessible data like height, weight, gender, and fitness goals. Using this information as a base, it provides personalized recommendations. If you're interested in specialized diets, you can find niche features like micro tracking as well. The food and exercise tracking features are free for all users in addition to some social features. All other features, however, require a subscription.

Runtastic Running and Fitness Tracking

People run for various reasons: for fitness, for fun, and for causes. Whatever your reason for getting out of the house and burning your calories, this fitness app is a great companion. It includes stats, graphs, exercise tracking, and more. It has a simple UI and manages statistics efficiently. The app even has a shoe tracker so you can know when the shoes' might get run down and whether you should consider buying new ones. This app is regularly at the forefront of new fitness technology as well. Among the free features, you'll find running groups you can join and friends you can compete with. A small subscription fee will let you access curated fitness plans.

Headspace

Mental health is just as important as physical health, if not more. Headspace is a meditation app that includes a variety of guided meditations, need-based programs to choose from, and emergency SOS sessions for calming yourself. Our favourite feature, however, is the occasional reminder it sends out telling you to chill and breathe a little bit. The pro version includes many more features but is also quite expensive.

Home Workout

For people who don't have the time, resources, or the interest to join a gym, Home Workout is the perfect app. As clear from the name, the app has a number of workouts that anyone can do right at home without the need for any equipment. The exercise routines offered include warm-ups, weight training, stretching, strength training, and more. You'll also have access to video and animation guides, charts, and tracking features to make your home workouts more fruitful.

Yoga Daily Fitness

Those who are enchanted by the Yoga movement will find a guru in this app. It features a few good daily routines to get you started and lists several Yoga exercises and poses that'll help increase your core strength, flexibility, and offer many other health benefits. However, this app is targeted towards beginners and is definitely a great stepping stone.
