Google Glass Gets Police and Firefighters App Posted: 20 Aug 2013 06:06 PM PDT
The Google Glass just got cooler, with a Police/Firefighters/First Responders App, courtesy of Mutualink. This proves the fact that Google Glass has lots of beneficial applications in real life scenarios, besides making your Facebook available when driving. Mutualink presented its Police app for Google Glass at APCO yesterday. APCO is a conference for public safety communications. The Glass app for law enforcement will be a breakthrough for officers and firefighters, because it will permit real time communications with live video feed from the scene, just let that sink in and imagine the possibilities. The officers will be able to receive important documents in real time, for example building maps, the medical records of the victims, live images from the security cameras and much more. For the operative agents working in the field, this on-demand intelligence platform is the best thing since sliced bread. They will be able to stay in contact with headquarters and other agents even when their radio units are off. With such great power, comes great responsibility, especially when it comes to privacy measures. For example, New York’s Mayor, Mr Bloomberg, among other US officials, is not so happy with the idea of police using Google Glass on a daily basis. They fear that police wearing the Glass is prone to all kinds of dangerous interpretation; I think it’s a good thing for the officers to know they’re on candid camera and all their moves are on record. The same goes for the suspects. Mutualink explained that their Glass app is under total control from the agency using it, hence matters of privacy are not in the hands of the police officers. This Google Glass app reminds me of Robocop, don’t you think? Cops watching your “wrap sheet” as they’re talking to you, knowing everything about you via facial recognition software before stepping out of their vehicles, the future sounds pretty cool.

Sony Xperia Honami Benchmark Reveals The Power of the Snapdragon 800 Platform Posted: 20 Aug 2013 05:41 PM PDT After the press image for the Sony Xperia Honami aka Z1 was leaked, now we have a cool benchmark to go with the picture. The Xperia Honami or Xperia Z1, whatever they will decide to call it, is set be the next flagship from the Japanese manufacturer. The Xperia Z1 will be available in three different colors, white-black-purple and from the picture we can see that it will feature a glass back panel, just like the Xperia Z. Looks aren’t everything, and according to the leaked benchmark, the Xperia Honami will run on a Snapdragon 800 system on chip, sporting an Adreno 330 graphics unit and a quad core Krait 400 CPU. Judging from the Antutu benchmark picture, this is a Chinese model with the processor running at 2150 MHz and scoring an impressive 30 625 points. Apparently, Sony did a remarkable job again. The Xperia Honami will run on Android 4.2.2 JellyBean out of the box, augmented with Sony’s proprietary user interface. Judging from the past high end models released by Sony, we expect the Z1 to be water and dust resistant. One of the most interesting features in the Xperia Z1 is the 20 Megapixels camera, which is rumored to support 4k video recording, and let’s hope that the Snapdragon 800 will be able to pass the camera test with flying colors. Officially, this resolution is supported, but the real life test will reveal the truth. The Xperia Z1 uses an Exmor R sensor and a G lens, I must tell you I can’t wait to see that baby performing live.
